Vice-Chancellors Committee Concerned Over Infringement On Powers Of Governing Councils.


The Committee of Vice-Chancellors, has expressed concern over what it described as infringement by the Minister of Education, on the powers of governing councils of universities in recent appointment of vice-chancellors for 12 Federal Universities.

In a statement signed by the Secretary-General of the committee, Prof. Michael Faborode, which was released on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister also erred in the appointment of a new vice-chancellor for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Taraba State Governor Releases N4m for Payment of SSCE Fees.


The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, has approved the release of N4million for the payment of NECO and WAEC fees for all final year secondary school students in the state.

According to the Commissioner for Education in the state, Mr. Johanies Jighem, the payment was part of effort by the governor's administration to revive the education sector in the state.

Jighem said the state government has also directed all secondary schools principals to summit a comprehensive report of condition of their respective schools.

Akwa Ibom Election: Ex-Minister Akpan Udoedehe Withdraws Case Against Umana



A Former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory and one of the aspirants in the April 11, 2015 governorship elections in Akwa Ibom State, John Akpanudoedehe, on Wednesday wrote to his supporters, announcing his decision to withdraw the case he filed against the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the polls, Umana Umana.




Following the December 5, 2014 primaries, Mr. Umana had emerged the APC flag bearer. But, Mr. Akpanudoedehe had challenged his candidacy by asking the Federal High Court to declare that he was the rightful candidate who scored the lawful votes cast during the party’s congress.

PMB Appointed Ooni of Ife Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka




President Buhari has appointed the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja ll, as the Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The Ooni's appointment was announced by the Director of Media, Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, yesterday February 18th.

Shehu Shagari College Gets Accreditation For New Degree Courses




The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited three additional degree programmes at the Shehu Shagari College of Education (SSCOE), Sokoto.

According to the Provost of the institution, Dr. Dikko Goshe, the courses are Mathematics, Chemistry and Integrated Science.

Goshe said the institution now runs 17 degree programmes in affiliation with two universities.
